No surprises
How we work with you
From your first email to your site being live — and what happens afterwards. You'll always know what stage we're at, what we need from you, and what happens next.
The stages of a project
-
Day one
You get in touch
You send us a message describing what you need. It doesn't have to be detailed or use the right words — we'll ask if anything's unclear.
What we need from you: a rough idea of what you want and roughly when.
-
Within one working day
We reply, and talk if it helps
A real person reads your message and replies. If it's straightforward we'll just quote. If not, we'll suggest a short call — usually half an hour, no charge, no sales pitch.
What we need from you: half an hour, if a call would help.
-
Before anything starts
You get a written plan and price
Exactly what we'll build, what it costs, and when it'll be done. One fixed price. Read it, ask questions, take your time. Nothing is owed unless you say yes.
What we need from you: a yes, a no, or your questions.
-
First week or two
We show you what it'll look like
Before we build anything properly, you see the design. This is the cheapest point to change your mind, so say what you really think — we'd much rather hear it now.
What we need from you: your logo and photos if you have them, and honest feedback.
-
The main stretch
We build it, and you can watch
You get a private link to see it coming together, updated as we go. You can look whenever you like and tell us if something isn't right — no need to wait for the end.
What we need from you: your text and any content, and a look at it now and then.
-
Before it goes live
We check it properly
We test it on real phones and laptops, check it works for people using screen readers or keyboards, and make sure it loads quickly on a poor connection. This is included, not an extra.
What we need from you: a final look, and your go-ahead.
-
Launch day
It goes live
We put it online, make sure your web address points at it, and check everything works. Then we show you how to update your own text, prices and photos.
What we need from you: access to your domain, or we'll sort one out.
-
Afterwards
We're still here
Anything broken in the first month, we fix free. After that you can look after it yourself, or pay a set monthly amount for us to handle updates, backups and small changes. Entirely your choice.
What we need from you: nothing, unless you want something changed.
Straight answers
Questions people usually ask
How long does a website take?
A straightforward business website is usually two to four weeks. An online shop or booking system is longer. The honest answer is that it mostly depends on how quickly you can get us your text and photos — that's the step that holds up most projects.
I don't have a logo or any photos. Is that a problem?
Not at all, and it's very common. We can point you to good photographers, help you choose decent stock photos, and put you in touch with someone for a logo. We'll never hold a project up over it.
Do I need to know anything technical?
No. You know your business and your customers — that's the part we can't do. The technical side is entirely ours. If we ever explain something in a way that doesn't make sense, tell us and we'll try again.
What's a domain, and do I need hosting?
A domain is your web address, like yourbusiness.com — you rent it yearly, usually for a small amount. Hosting is the space your site occupies online. You need both, they're inexpensive, and we'll either set them up for you or work with what you already have.
Can I change things myself afterwards?
Yes. We build sites so you can change your own text, prices and photos without calling us, and we'll show you how. If you'd rather not, we can do it for you instead.
What if I want to leave, or use someone else later?
Everything is yours — the site, the design, the domain, the content. We'll hand it all over and help whoever takes it on. We don't lock anyone in; we'd rather you stayed because you want to.
Do you work with businesses outside your area?
Yes — most of our work is done remotely by email and video call, across UK, European and US time zones. If you'd prefer to meet in person we can usually arrange it.
What if I'm not sure what I need?
That's the most common situation, and it's genuinely fine. Describe the problem — "I'm losing customers to competitors who show up on Google" is plenty — and working out the right answer is our job, not yours.
Still wondering about something? Ask us directly — there's no such thing as a daft question.
